Inside Bryan Baeumler’s German roots

In November 2019, Bryan featured in a HGTV blog piece named ‘Bryan Baeumler Shares His Favourite Family Traditions During the Holidays’.

When asked about his holiday heritage, Bryan answered:

“As you may already know from my surname, I have a German background.”

The TV host then explained a German tradition he likes to incorporate into holiday celebrations:

“It is a German tradition to open one present on Christmas Eve. I have continued this tradition with my four children: we open a single gift on Christmas Eve while we set up a plate of cookies and a glass of milk for Santa. We also light the tree and play holiday music. This helps us spread out the festivities a little instead of just tearing into the entire pile of gifts come Christmas morning!”

Despite sharing very little about his German origin on social media, Bryan has previously expressed an interest in his nationality.

In 2013, @Bryan_Baeumler took to Twitter to define his new favourite word ‘Backpfeifengesicht’, which happens to be a German term meaning “a face that’s begging to be slapped”.

During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bryan reportedly remained at the hotel on South Andros to avoid crowded international travel for the safety of his family.

They eventually made their way home to Canada for Christmas and quarantined while enjoying some snow.

As of today, it is thought that Bryan is located with his family in The Bahamas due to the island surroundings in recent social media uploads.
