Liverpool show up rivals Manchester United with their press conference Christmas treats

LIVERPOOL and Manchester United's rivalry has extended to the snack table at their latest pre-match press conferences.

And just like in the top flight so far this season it was Jurgen Klopp's men who had the better of things.

Ahead of Boxing Day, United treated the press to festive mince pies and red wine.

But they were blown out of the water when the Anfield offering was revealed on Twitter.

Liverpool laid on mince pies, Fox's biscuits, donuts, crisps and Ferrero Rocher for the assembled press.

BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone tweeted from the AON training complex in Carrington and was mocked by colleague Juliette Ferrington, who showed how much better journalists had it across the North West.

With a picture of United's red wine and mince pies, Stone wrote: "Merry Christmas from AON Training Complex."

But Ferrington replied: "I think ours is better than yours Si #LFC."

United and Liverpool both play home games against bottom half opposition over the Christmas period.

On Boxing Day, United take on relegation threatened Sunderland as David Moyes returns to Old Trafford for the first time.

And a day later Liverpool play Stoke with former midfielder Joe Allen set to return to Anfield.

Klopp's side got their title chase back on track with a last gasp Sadio Mane winner in the Merseyside derby at Everton, which left them within six points of leaders Chelsea.

Man United have also hit form recently, recording three straight league wins.

Jose Mourinho's side lie four points off fourth place, but the Special One insists his side are aiming to do more than simply secure a Champions League place this season.

He said: "So let's see where we finish, I don't want to say fourth, because I think we can do better than fourth.

"But we have the risk of not doing fourth because the competition is so hard and the top teams have the same ambitions as we have. So I don't want to say fourth or third or fifth."

Mourinho added that he expects Morgan Schneiderlin to leave Old Trafford in January, saying: "If he’s not playing regular I have no right to tell a player that wants to be happy ‘you’re going nowhere’."
